Lighting Controls Troubleshooting & Repair
Lighting controls troubleshooting is the structured process of identifying why a control system isn't behaving correctly — then correcting the root cause (wiring, device configuration, programming, network, or hardware).
TL;DR: We triage quickly, isolate the failure, implement a fix path, and document what changed so the problem doesn't come back.
Common symptoms we fix
- Lights turning off unexpectedly / false occupancy
- Daylight harvesting behaving erratically
- Dimming flicker, dropouts, or inconsistent levels
- Zones not responding to switches/scenes
- Relay panels not switching or stuck on/off
- Gateways/controllers offline, BACnet/DMX/sACN/DALI comms issues
- Emergency/egress behavior not matching requirements (UL-924 scenarios)
Our troubleshooting method (how we avoid guesswork)
- 1
Triage intake
Symptoms, when it started, what changed, photos/videos.
- 2
System identification
Manufacturer, topology, protocols, firmware/software versions.
- 3
Physical verification
Power, wiring, terminations, addressing, device placement.
- 4
Network + comms checks (when applicable)
IP settings, gateways, traffic, conflicts.
- 5
Programming review
Schedules, overrides, sensor parameters, scene logic.
- 6
Fix + verify
Implement changes, re-test, document, and train as needed.
Remote vs on-site
Remote (when access is available)
- Log review and system triage
- Programming changes
- Controller/gateway configuration
- Some diagnostics and verification
On-site
- Wiring/device verification
- Sensor placement issues
- Hardware swaps and repairs
- Full functional testing
Will you just “reprogram it”?
Not unless programming is the root cause. We troubleshoot systematically to avoid masking wiring, device, or network problems.
Have a system down or behaving unpredictably?
Send us the symptoms and system details — we'll recommend the fastest fix path.
